The United Kingdom is the world's biggest exporter of hard liquor. These include whiskies, grape wine, rum, tafia, alcoholic liqueurs, alcoholic preparations, etc. During the financial year 2023, the UK's hard liquor exports were $8.5 billion. As compared to fiscal year 2022, there was a significant decline of 8.8% in the UK's hard liquor exports. As per UK import export data of 2022, the UK exported around $9.3 billion worth of liquors.

In 2023, the United States was the biggest importer of hard liquor from the United Kingdom accounting for 18% share of the UK's overall liquor exports. According to the UK export data, over $1.6 billion worth of hard liquor exports were made to the United States during last year. Among the fastest growing markets for UK's liquor exports were France (7%), Singapore (5%) and Germany (4%). Also, there were notable amounts of liquor shipments to Germany, Spain, China and India.  

 

84% of the UK’s hard liquor exports were whiskies which accounted for $7.5 billion in 2023.  Import share wise, Gin & Geneva (8.4%), Spirits (2.9%), Liqueurs (2.5%), Rum (0.8%), Vodka (0.7%). Pernod Ricard, Diageo Brands and John Dewar & Sons were some of the sophisticated brands from the UK which were responsible for the maximum amount of shipments during last fiscal year. 


On the other hand, the UK's alcoholic beverages imports rose up to 5.2% as compared to fiscal year 2022. UK import data shows that the country's hard liquor imports stood at around $1.27 billion during fiscal year 2023. The major markets for UK's liquor imports were France (17%), United States (15%), Ireland (10%) and Italy (9.6%). 


The UK has shown a notable amount of interest in liquor imports from Mexico, Netherlands, Germany and Spain. Liqueurs ($285 million), Whiskies ($270 million) and Spirits ($258 million) were the prominent imports of the United Kingdom. The overall beverages exports from the United Kingdom were estimated to be $10.8 billion during fiscal year 2023. The major markets for the UK's beverages exports were the United States (17%), France (7.8%), Singapore (5.4%), Netherlands (4%) and Germany (3.8%). Also, the UK's beverages imports were $10.8 billion in 2023. The top market for UK's beverages imports were France, Italy, United States and Netherlands.  


The UK is the biggest market for the hard liquor exports. The forecasts for this year show positive growth in the UK’s hard liquor exports. Currently, after the United Kingdom, France, Mexico, the United States and Italy are the leading markets for hard liquor. Whereas, the top importer of hard liquor are the United States, China, Germany, France and Singapore.
