Turkey's tomato exports surge to $535 Million

 
Turkey's tomato exports have been promising during last fiscal year. According to the Turkey export data reports around $545 million worth of tomato exports were made. As compared to the previous year, there was around 43% increase in Turkey's tomato exports. Turkey's tomato exports were to almost 52 countries. 

Around 592 thousand tons of tomato shipments were made during fiscal year 2023. European Union countries were the top markets for Turkey's tomato exports. These were Ukraine, Germany, Poland, Romania, Netherlands, Bulgaria, United Kingdom, Russia, Italy, Spain, France, Estonia, etc. 


Talya Fresh Agriculture, TekAsya Tarim Anon and Smyrna Greenhouse Tica were the leading tomato export companies from Turkey. Deci Frucht from Romanica, Fresh Point from Poland and Lehmann Troost from Netherlands were among the leading tomato importers from Turkey during FY 2023. 


Apart from tomatoes, Turkey's major vegetables include chilli pepper, pomegranate, pumpkins, and brinjal. Chilli pepper was the top export item from Turkey contributing to over 46% share of Turkey's overall exports. Whereas, pomegranates, pumpkins, and brinjal contributed to over 12%, 7.8% and 7,18% share in Turkey's vegetable exports. 


The most favourable markets for Turkey's vegetable exports were Russia, Romania, Germany, Ukraine, Poland and Bulgaria. Russia, Romania and Germany were top 3 markets for Turkey's vegetables exports responsible for 20%, 17% and 15% share respectively. 


Also, there were some noticeable amounts of vegetable export shipments to the Netherlands, United Kingdom and Croatia. Tekasya, Talya Fresh Agriculture, Karaaslan Agricultural Products and Mertpa Agriculture were the leading Turkish export companies accounting for the maximum amount of shipments during last year.


In terms of tomato imports, the country has imported over $398 million worth of tomatoes during FY 2023. Turkey import data shows India as the leading tomato supplier contributing to over 45% share of Turkey's overall tomato imports. Whereas, China was the second leading supplier of tomatoes to Turkey having over 7.38% share of imports. 


Germany, Iran, Spain, Japan, Italy, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom were the fast growing markets for Turkey's tomato imports. Eren agricultural products industry, Mehmet Din Ok, Talya Fresh Agriculture and Erbeyler Agricultural Food were the leading Turkish importers. Hunan Huacheng Biotech from China were the leading tomato supplier to Turkey during last fiscal year.


Onions, Mushrooms, pepper and asparagus were the most imported vegetables items by Turkey. Turkey import export data shows that Cyprus was the leading vegetable supplier to Turkey. Mexico, Iran, Peru, Lebanon, the United Kingdom and Ireland were the most favoured destinations for Turkey's vegetable imports.
