India eye's whiskey exports to Australian market
 India is looking to tap the global whiskey market. In the wake of that, India is likely to raise its whiskey exports to Australia. India has recently joined the Mutual recognition agreement with Australia. This will benefit India to trade goods freely to Australia.

According to India customs data, India has exported over $135 thousand worth of whisky to Australia in the last fiscal year. In comparison to $482 million exports in FY 2022, India’s whiskey exports to Australia have declined significantly. 


Australia imported the maximum amount of whiskey during January 2023. During June 2023, Australia imported $37 thousand worth of whiskey from India. Radico Khaitan was the leading whiskey exporter company from India with exports worth $82 thousand this year.


As per India export data reports, India had exported over $17 million worth of whiskey exports during the current fiscal year. India’s whiskey exports increased significantly as compared to FY 2022. As, it was $3.5 million that year. India has reported the maximum amount of shipments during January and May 2023. In January, around $273K worth of shipments were made while $261K worth shipments were made during May 2023.


India import export data reflects that Ghana accounted for the maximum import volume of Indian whiskey. In the last one year, Papua New Guinea has imported Indian whiskey worth over $2.3 million constituting over 12% share in India's overall whiskey exports.


After Ghana, the United States was the second largest whiskey importer from India having over 10% share. The United States was then followed by Oman, United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, Tanzania, Congo, Latvia, Togo and Netherlands. 


Whereas, some of the fastest growing markets for India's whiskey exports were Singapore, Russia, Haiti, Papua New Guinea, France and Panama. The Radico Khaitan Limited from India was the top whiskey exporter with exports worth over $3.5 million along with 20% share in India's overall whiskey exports. 


Regent Distillers, Amrut Distilleries, Jagatjit Industries and Bluebird Enterprises were among the top 5 whiskey export companies from India during the financial period 2022-23. On the other hand, India import data reflects that $527 worth of whiskey imports were made by India in the current fiscal year. The highest amount of import shipments were recorded in the month of May which was around 1575 dollars. The United Kingdom and the United States were the top whiskey exporters to India with over 90% share of India’s total whiskey imports. Singapore, China and the United Arab Emirates are other major whiskey exporters to India.
